Konzepte und Ideen

 

Auf meinem Weg zu einer künstlerischen Aktion oder Präsentation zum Thema Wind will ich zweigleisig fahren.

1.   Eine Richtung führt in die Stimmperformance, solo und in der Gruppe

2.   Die zweite Richtung führt zu einer Rauminstallation mit verschiedenen Elementen:

a)   Aufnahmen: Gedichte, Windbilder, Wind-Videos, Windlisten etc.

b)   Aufgaben: Mit Stimme und Atem dem Phänomen Wind im direkten und in vielen übertragenen Bedeutungen näher kommen.

c)   Aufhängen: Texte. Objekte, Bildschirme im Raum.

 

Dabei geht es nicht um Präsentation von Ergebnissen, sondern um Möglichkeiten des inneren Einstimmens auf WIND. Das gilt für beide Wege. Die Performance sollte nicht gebaut sein als eine „Show“, sondern als ein Raum, in den neben den Performern auch die Gäste eintreten, um sich dem Wind zu nähern. Das kann z.B. auch durch eine Einladung geschehen, für eine Zeit auf bestimmte Weise zu atmen.

 

 

Concepts and Ideas

 

On my path to a artistic action or presentation about WIND I am going to move along two different lines.

1.   One line leads into a voice performance, solo and in a group.

2.   The second line leads to a installation in space, with various elements:

a. Recordings: poems, Wind-Images, Wind-Videos, Windlists etc.

b. Tasks, that enables to come closer to the WIND in a direct and a symbolic sense by using breath and voice.

c. Hanging up: texts, objects, screens in space

 

The aim is not to present results but rather to offer the chance for tuning in the WIND. This is true for both lines of activities. The performance won´t be a sort of „show“ but a space in which performers and guests will enter. One way might be through the invitation to breath in a certain (windy) way for a while.

WIND - Übungen / Exercises

 

Windübung am 1. Nov. 2020

Die Hauptübung dieser Probe, die ich alleine gemacht habe, bestand darin, über Atem und Stimme das ganze lebendige System (=ich) in den Windmodus zu bringen, d.h. mit allem der Bewegung des Wind-Atems und der Wind-Stimme zu folgen. Um dahin zu kommen, braucht es viel Zeit. Ich habe ca. drei Stunden damit verbracht.

Im Hintergrund wirkte das Lawrence-Gedicht „Not I not I but the Wind“. 

 

Die Übung provozierte verschiedene Reaktionen und Widerstände in mir. Lange Zeit blieb der Geist einfach an den Dingen hängen, die außerhalb des Proberaumes auf Erledigung warteten. Der Körper reagierte mit Blockade und Schmerz an verschiedenen Stellen. In meinem Empfinden/meiner Vorstellung sind das Körperstellen, die den „Wind“ noch nicht durchlassen können oder wollen. 

 

Dann tauchte irgendwann ein Phantasiebild auf, das einem Traum ähnlich war. Eine Schattenfigur, die den Prozess ziemlich grobschlächtig stört. Auf mein System übertragen zeigte sich da offenbar eine Energie, die sich dem „Wind“ in den Weg stellen will. So formuliert eigentlich ein ziemlich hoffnungsloses Unterfangen, im „Traumbild“ aber effektiv.

Nächste Aufgabe wäre, sich dieser Widerstandskraft zu widmen und zu sehen, wie sie in die Windrichtung gebracht werden kann.

 

Wind-Exercise 1 Nov. 20

The main exercise of this rehearsal that I did on my own was, to bring my whole vital system (=I)into a modus of WIND, by using breath and voice. I wanted to follow with „everything“ the movements of the Wind-breath and the Wind-voice. This needed time. I spent about three hours with it. In the background there was the poem of Lawrence „Not I not I but the Wind“.

 

The exercise provoked different reactions and forms of resistance. For a long time my mind just kept attached on things which waited outside of the studio to be managed and organized (daily life!). The body reacted with feelings of block and pain on different spots. In my imagination these parts of my body were not willing or able to let the wind go through yet.

 

Then an image appeared in my mind that had the form of a dream. A shadow figure, that disturbed the process with some vigor. In relation to my „system“ this showed obviously an energy, that wanted to stop the movement of the Wind. If you say it that way it seems to be a pretty hopeless idea. But it was not.

Next exercise will be to focuse on this resistant force and see, if it can be moved into the direction of the wind.

Der Wind in Rilkes Sonetten (und Edgar Wind)

 

Rilke, Sonette an Orpheus:

 

„Gesang wie du ihn lehrst ist nicht Begehr, nicht Werbung um ein endlich noch Erreichtes. Gesang ist Dasein. Für den Gott ein leichtes. Wann aber sind wir? Und wann wendet er an unser Sein die Erde und die Sterne? Dies ists nicht Jüngling, dass du liebst, wenn auch die Stimme dann den Mund dir aufstößt, lerne vergessen, dass du aufsangst, das verrinnt.

In Wahrheit singen ist ein anderer Hauch, ein Hauch um nichts, ein Wehn im Gott, ein Wind.“

 

„Wieviele von diesen Stellen der Räume waren schon innen in mir? Manche Winde sind wie mein Sohn.  

Erkennst du mich, Luft, du, voll noch einst meiniger Orte?“

 

Rilke fasst in den Sonetten den Zusammenhang von Atem und Wind bzw. dem gesamten Luftraum auf eine Weise, die mich an Edgar Winds Bestimmung von Metaphysik erinnert. Metaphysik versucht, das Ganze zu fassen, also dasjenige, das mit Physik und Wissenschaft nicht zu erfassen ist. Als endliche Wesen können wir nur Teilaspekte der Welt erkennen. Doch müssen wir für diese Erkenntnisleistung immer das Ganze als den großen und strukturierten Zusammenhang mitdenken und seine Existenz voraussetzen. „Manche Winde sind wie mein Sohn.“ 

Atmend haben wir Anteil an diesem großen Zusammenhang der Winde und der Luft als dem All des Lebensraumes. Wir stellen diesen Zusammenhang mit jedem Atemzug neu her. Doch aus der Perspektive der Winde ist unser Anteil an dem großen Ganzen winzig klein. Zugleich verbindet uns diese atmende Anteilnahme mit allen Menschen und sogar allen anderen atmenden Lebewesen, die auf gleiche Weise in das große Ganze eingebunden sind wie wir. Der große Luftraum umfasst aber noch viel mehr als die atmenden Wesen. Er ist uns präsent im Modus der Unverfügbarkeit. Die Form dieses Luftraumes ist der Wind als formgebendes Prinzip. Der Luftraum ordnet sich in Winde. In diesem Sinn ist der Wind Gegenstand der Metaphysik und nicht nur der Meteorologie.

Atmen ist so betrachtet eine metaphysische Tätigkeit. Wobei sich atmend Machen und Geschehenlassen so wenig trennen lassen wie in einer atmenden Metaphysik Theorie und Praxis wieder zusammenfinden dürfen.

Die erste menschliche Form, in der sich die metaphysische Verbundenheit mit dem Wind offenbart ist der Gesang, die Stimme, die die Luft in Bewegung bringt.

Meine Einladung an Dich/Sie ist es, sich eines der Bilder anzuhören und zugleich innerlich nach dem Windbild zu suchen, das dabei erscheint. Ich freue mich auch Rückmeldungen, welche Bilder sich gezeigt haben.

Diese Galerie gehört zu meiner media arte povera - Reihe. D.h. mir geht es bei den Aufnahmen nicht um technische Perfektion. Wie soll man Wind in ein Studio bannen?

On this site you find a gallery with vocal wind-images. These are short recordings of my voice, which where in myself connected with certain ideas of wind.

My invitation to you is, that you listen to one of these images in look inside yourself for the wind image that appears. I am looking forward to receive your comment on the images that you have found. 

This gallery is part of my media arte povera - series. I am not looking for technical perfection. How should one bring a wind into a studio?

„Not I, not I but the wind“ – Wind, breath and a poem

I work with D.H. Lawrence´s poem „Not I, not I but the wind“. On Soundcloud  you will find the recordings that I have done so far:

Not I, not I, but the wind that blows through me!

A fine wind is blowing the new direction of Time.

If only I let it bear me, carry me, if only it carry me!

If only I am sensitive, subtle, oh, delicate, a winged gift!

If only, most lovely of all, I yield myself and am borrowed

By the fine, fine wind that takes its course through the chaos of the world

Like a fine, an exquisite chisel, a wedge-blade inserted;

If only I am keen and hard like the sheer tip of a wedge

Driven by invisible blows,

The rock will split, we shall come at the wonder, we shall find the Hesperides.

 

Oh, for the wonder that bubbles into my soul,

I would be a good fountain, a good well-head,

It is somebody wants to do us harm.

 

No, no, it is the three strange angels.

Admit them, admit them.

 

 

I learnt this poem by heart and with this I learnt to like it very much. The idea that the wind can carry me and I only have to become sensitive and subtle enough is something that speaks to me and to my understanding of the voice. It is not necessarily the loud sounds that make the deepest impact. 

 

Starting with the “fine wind” will lead to another form of strength, a force that finally will “split the rock”. But it also will lead to our fears (What is the knocking at the door?) and to forces way beyond our abilities, like the “three strange angels”. This is a motif from the bible. Three Angels come to Abraham and tell him that his already old wife Sarah will have a child. The angels symbolize the appearance of the impossible, of things that where not to be expected.

For me the process of this poem is not only a metaphor for a life that starts with the wind-connection but also for an artistic process. With the fine wind and with the continuous search for the subtle "we will come at the wonder" and the three angels will feel invited to bring us unexpected good news. (Ok, it is a bit romantic but still I like it…)

 

12. Nov. 2020:  One way the poem will be present in my different WIND-Projects is that I will do and record 100 slightly different recitings of the poem. I just started to collect the various interpretations.

After collecting about 11 versions it becomes obvious that a lot of the versions will have some "mistakes" in it. I do the reciting always by heart and quite often I forget a word or a line or say things slightly different from the original. I guess that some of the mistakes will be very interesting for native english speakers because they would never happen by them but only by somebody like me who speaks english only as a second language. I leave these "mistakes" in the recordings. They are part of my work with this wonderful poem.

Herzlich willkommen auf dem WIND-Blog von Ralf Peters!

Hier werde ich in Zukunft meine Beschäftigung mit dem Thema Wind dokumentieren und die in künstlerische Form gebrachten Ergebnisse präsentieren. 

Dieses Langzeitprojekt wird verschiedene Ausdrucksformen haben: Audios, Videos, Texte, Rezitationen, Performances, Installationen und vieles mehr. Einiges werde ich alleine auf die Beine stellen, bei anderen Aktionen werden andere Künstler*innen und Performer*innen dabei sein. Bin gespannt, was alles mit dem Wind herbeiwehen wird.

Welcome at the WIND-Blog of Ralf Peters!

Here I will document my work with the subject Wind and present the results that will appear in artistic form.

This durational Projekt will have different forms of expression: Audios, Videos, Text, Recitations, Performances, Installations and who knows what else will happen! Some of the activities will be done only by myself, others together with other artists and Performer. Let´s see and hear what the wind will blow in our direction!
